An Unfamiliar Sky – Nov 2025

This album is entirely instrumental, a first for me. It is my fourth – after “Riven” (2016), the “Deadpan Comedian” EP (2019), and the “3” EP (2021). It began with the first track – Last Flight to Triton – composed in late 2023, and the old school space-battle image created for it led to the thought of a series of space/ adventure themed songs. The remaining 8 songs got created in pretty much the same order as the track listing, flowing from start to finish with a narrative around escape, flight, being marooned, finding a way back. I initially put them out as singles, unsure if I’d ever get to complete the album, but with the 9th one, Going Home, getting done a couple of weeks ago, the album got it’s closing track.

The artwork for the album was as much a part of the journey. Each time I put up a new song, creating its cover was part of the fun. All 9 have been combined into the album cover – an idea that took hold somewhere around song #4 I think – which also forced me to do  exactly 9 songs. 

Thankyous: Dave who would have played bass on all 9 songs, if he hadn’t moved out of town! Juni for adding inspiration and some keys (and, I hope, drums in the future). Ratul for sharp observations,  feedback and motivation whenever I came up with something. VP,  Vinu, and Norbert for all the gear talk and mind expansion when it comes to music making.
